Duane Betts joins me on the show today. Duane is the son of the innovative guitarist and songwriter from the Allman Brothers Band, Dickey Betts, and while he’s certainly a chip off the ol’ block, Duane has his own thing going on and has finally just released his debut solo album “Wild & Precious Life”.
Duane Betts’ first full-length solo album, Wild & Precious Life, is a direct extension of his work in the Allman-Betts Band in 2019 and 2020 (and superior to those efforts too). In his role as executive producer, it was no doubt he who enlisted linchpins of that group– including guitarist Johnny Stachela, bassist Berry Duane Oakley, keyboardist John Ginty–plus drummer Tyler Greenwell (TTB, Wood Brothers); these four form the core of accompanists working in Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks’ Swamp Raga Studio in Jacksonville, Florida.

Betts recently made his debut at the Grand Ole Opry and has a batch of summertime tri-state area stops that include Patchogue's Great South Bay Music Festival (July 23), Asbury Park's Wonder Room (July 28), New York's Cutting Room (July 29), Morristown's The Homestead (August 20) and Port Chester's Garcia's (August 22). Duane Betts has released a new song off his upcoming debut solo LP Wild & Precious Life, which is set to release in July. The song titled “Stare At The Sun” explores complex themes through masterful guitar work and thoughtful compositions, like many found on the album – and is a sweltering and swampy homage to his father Dicky, which is bolstered by the slick and unmistakable guitar playing of fellow Allman Brothers Band family Derek Trucks.

Guitarist and singer-songwriter Duane Betts will issue his debut solo album, Wild & Precious Life, through the venerable Royal Potato Family label on July 14. Betts will support the 10-track effort — which features lead single “Waiting On A Song” and special guests including Derek Trucks, Marcus King and Nicki Bluhm — with a spring/summer tour.
